Truth is I've made two versions of the gate (this is the second, and much better version). However upon going for more accuracy this time I find myself in a situation that might involve me having to redo some parts of the main body of the gate as well as the tangential spikes on either side of each chevron. However I will say that I am quite happy with how this model is turning out because this is my first project in 3DS Max where I've not only focused on image quality but also modelling techniques. Before I used to create a bunch of objects and have nearly everything boolean-based, making for a 7-figure poly scene with not much going on for detail.
For those interested in how I made this gate, I followed a tutorial written by Ed Giddings which involves spline-based model creation (I.E. making a spline profile of an object and then lathing it to create an extremely good looking as well as very low-poly object).
In the interests of hopefully not violating any copyrighted material I will affirm that the texture used for the main body of the gate (not including the chevron lights or the iris) is copyright whoever made it for the Stargate TC mod for Half-Life.
